At the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, before National Lottery funding to athletes was introduced, Team GB won just 15 medals. By Athens in 2004 this had doubled to 30 medals, and at London 2012 Olympics Team GB won 65 medals including 29 golds.
National Lottery funding supported 103 sports science and medical staff for Team GB through the English Institute of Sport during London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics, including physiotherapists, psychologists, performance analysts, nutritionists and doctors.
